Ford Championship Weekend Tickets Now on Sale!
EDITOR’S NOTE: TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW for Ford Championship Weekend 2008, an annual sell-out. Set for Nov. 14-16 on Homestead-Miami Speedway's 1.5-mile oval, the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Craftsman Truck Series all will crown champions under the lights. One of the fastest-selling events anywhere in sports, tickets for NASCAR’s series-crowning championship weekend will be gone quickly. Was Jimmie just playing possum? Is this the year Junior comes of age? Does Hendrick regret letting Busch head for the mountains of Joe Gibbs Racing? And what about the hurtin’ that Burton is putting on some drivers almost half his age? It’s been quite the storyline start for NASCAR’s 2008 Sprint Cup series. And nine races into a 36-race campaign, that bodes well for one phenomenal finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Wanna come? Did you really need another reason to visit subtropical Miami in November? A three-day championship tradition unlike any other, Homestead-Miami Speedway provides the South Florida finish line for NASCAR’s series-crowning finale, Ford Championship Weekend. Set for Nov. 14-16, tickets for this annual sell-out have just recently gone on sale. Fantastic seats—which won’t last—are available now by calling (866) 409-RACE or visiting www.Homestead-MiamiSpeedway.com. The Craftsman Truck Ford 200 is scheduled under the Friday night lights, the Nationwide Series Ford 300 will run Saturday afternoon and the Sprint Cup Series caps the winning weekend on Sunday afternoon. “It’s like no other weekend in sports,” said Homestead-Miami President Curtis Gray. “To crown champions in all three of NASCAR’s top tiers during the same weekend at the same venue—in a region renowned as both an international beach and entertainment capital of the world—we like to think we’re on to a little something. There’s really nothing like celebrating a championship in South Florida.” And this year’s on-track turbulence is shaping up as a racing fan’s fantasy. Consider: -
Four of Jimmie Johnson’s first five finishes of the ’08 season read like that of a Sprint Cup novice with little hope of dialing in with the big boys: 27th place, 29th, 13th and 18th. But a recent three-race rebound—including a win at Phoenix this month—has elevated the two-time defending Cup champ into the hunt for the very hardware he’s wrapped up each of the last two years at Homestead-Miami. He currently sits fifth in the race for the Chase. -
And then there’s “Little E” making it look ea-sy. Dale Earnhardt, Jr., has the sport’s following believing it’s now time to believe the hype. NASCAR nation’s favorite driver set the tone early in his rookie campaign with Hendrick Motorsports with wins at Daytona in the Budweiser Shoot-Out non-points race and the Gatorade Duel qualifying. And since, three Top 5s and seven Top 10 finishes have him currently sitting third in the standings heading into Richmond this weekend He keeps this up, and seats for NASCAR’s South Florida finale will be in demand like at no other time come November—when they’re no longer available. -
And while Rick Hendrick’s crew has been the beneficiary of Junior’s arrival, might it be regretting having made the room by cutting lose the younger of the Busch brothers? Kyle sits second in the current Sprint Cup standings while also running third in the Nationwide rankings. And should we mention he was leading the Truck standings prior to skipping last weekend’s race at Kansas? Baseball hasn’t had a Triple Crown winner since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967, but that’s like a date of yesterday in the NASCAR neighborhood—where it’s never been done. -
Which brings us to one of the few guys driving on the current circuit who may remember that feat: Jeff Burton. The 40-year-old consummate professional is playing Trump to the Apprentices, with six Top 10s and three Top 5s through the first nine races of 2008. Will he be taking them all to school come Nov. 14-16 at Homestead-Miami Speedway? With the Ford Racing trio of Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth; the likes of Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin and Kasey Kahne; and Miami’s own Juan Pablo Montoya firmly entrenched in the mix, it’s tough to say. One thing you can bet on: Ford Championship tickets won’t last…. TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW for Ford Championship Weekend 2008.
